To someoneSomething I want to get off my chest, hope it's not too sentimental. He was an old man, in his eighties. I barely even knew him, he was an acquaintance of my parents. One way or another, he found out that I suffer from CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome, for those who don't know). He also knew that I loved to cycle, and how I couldn't do it very often because of the disorder. One day he phoned us, telling he had an electric bicycle he didn't use anymore. He wanted me to have it. My father asked what the price would be. 'We'll figure that out', he said. So we met him, and I made a little test drive. I loved it. When we talked to him, it became more and more clear that he didn't want to sell it, he wanted to give it to me. He even paid for the repairs. There were some tears in his eyes when he handed the bicycle to me.Never have I fully realised how much this gift actually ment. Not just because an electric bicycle is very expensive, also because it gave me so many opportunities. Without it,

Introducing an artist #3: Alexey TitarenkoQuoting Titarenko:"It would be en error to consider my photographs within the context of the values now fashionable in the arts in general and photography in particular. To align them with such and such a trend, without taking into account that their very purpose in existing is defined by the past.Even the most factual of them are not reportage, but a novel. The principal motivation for their creation is, in fact, always the same: Russia's history throughout the 20th century, which is an unending series of tragedies of ever more baffling dimensions, whether you consider the wars, the famines or the so-called times of peace. The history of Russia… but in the form of rather contemporary images, made in a single location, a single city — St. Petersburg.Rather than the city (which is mostly only vaguely visible), these images represent emotion — the range of emotions forming the deep inner character of the people who lived in this country and endured all these disasters, people who were

Introducing an artist #1: Yaroslav GerzhedovichA Russian artist from St. Petersburg. He makes incredible artworks, using various techniques such as ink on paper, tempera on paper, mixed media, acrylic on paper, and photography. His landscapes and portraits are usually surrealistic and very detailed. He is one of my favourite modern artists I came across on the internet. His Flickr-page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39386717@N07/ Tumblr/website - Facebook (personal) - Facebook (page) - Last.fm
